Many guests to Malawi would like to find out more about the communities surrounding the destinations they visit, and in the interests of making an easier and more worthwhile experience for both the guests and the people of Malawi, a safari company based at Cape Maclear on the southern shore of Lake Malawi came up with this combination of project work at Chembe Village of Cape Maclear and a holiday. The Chembe Village Community Project Centre has put together a package which combines good works and fun days in the village with a relaxing visit to the island to reward you for your hard work! The package includes three nights at a great beachfront lodge, with daily activities on offer at any of the projects on the go at the Project Centre. Meals are taken at a nearby restaurant (or with a local family if you prefer). On the fourth day you then catch the boat out to Mumbo Island for the next three nights to rest and relax in a great completely off-grid and 'green' island camp. A holiday which does both you and your conscience good!

Cape Maclear is a fusion of tourism and traditional African village life. Having been like this for over fifty years, today the two co-exist in a peaceful symbiosis. But like anything good the relationship needs ongoing care, and the Chembe Village Community Project Centre provides the means for just that.The Project Centre is based at a Lodge in the heart of the village, and this is your base too as you immerse yourself in volunteer opportunities
which include orphan and vulnerable child feeding schemes, safe drinking water provision, HIV/AIDS support, malaria prevention, and health and hygiene awareness. Nights are spent in beautiful reed chalets overlooking the lake, and meals are taken at nearby Gecko Lounge or with a local family. On day four catch the boat out to Mumbo Island and reward yourself with some well-earned rest in a remote island paradise. The minimalist yet comfortable camp consists of seven safari tents and dining area and bar, all smoothly run by a discreet team of Malawian staff and expert island chefs, leaving guests free to explore or relax at will.
