Indulge your Castaway Fantasy from the luxury of a private Island Camp! Guest comment: “The tiny camp on Mumbo Island is straight out of Robinson Crusoe - Island-style comfort surrounded by nature. We learned to kayak and dive, and swam amongst myriad multi-coloured fish. We lazed in hammocks, enjoyed tea, cold drinks and fine meals, and slept in vast tents overlooking the lake.”
Paddle a part of Africa's third biggest fresh water lake! Go snorkeling and have a look at the multicoloured fish species of the lake called the cichlids. Lake Malawi - There are five major national parks in Malawi with wildlife such as elephants, zebra, hippo, crocodiles, antelope, lion, leopards, and hundreds of species of birds and fish. The Lake is about 560 km long and at its widest, stretches 75 km. It forms most of the eastern border between Malawi and Mozambique. The lake consists of a single basin with greatest depth of about 706 m near the western shore about 45 km north of Nkhata Bay. The lake contains a greater variety of indigenous species of fish than any other lake in the world. World Wildlife Fund researchers have identified over 500 species to date that are not found anywhere else in the world. Most of these fish are brightly colored and patterned. Many villages are located on the lake shore. The lake serves as an important source of food, providing local fishermen with an abundant source of fish. A most popular dinner in Malawi is chambo (a type of fish) and nsima (a corn or cassava porridge). Kayak equipment - Our boats are durable, robust and very comfortable. They are also stable and cut through the water with ease. They are two man sit in sea kayaks made of polyethelene. A spray deck is available to place over the cockpit when required. Each person is fitted with a life jacket or personal floatation device. The required safety equipment, such as flares, compass and first aid kit are in the guide's boat.
