Who is SafariScout.com?

After 12 years of backpacking in Southern Africa it was time for SafariScout.com owner Beate Gernhuber to send other people on safari to Africa and give her own backpack a well deserved break. The knowledge she gained on her adventure tours through Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Lesotho, Swaziland and South Africa now serves as the base of her online travel agency and this website. The safaris, tour offers and holiday destinations featured on this website are all very well known to her...furthermore the safari companies, tour guides and travel service providers that SafariScout.com clients meet on their african journeys.

Beate Gernhuber travelled Africa overland, on water and in the air. Most reliable travel mate was a blue-white VW Kombi with flower curtains from 1978. It navigated the hot Namib desert roads in Namibia, the mountain passes around Cape Town in South Africa as well as the thick sand on the palm fringed beaches of Mozambique. On a wildlife walking safari in South Africa's Kruger National Park she came dangerously close to a pair of cheetahs. In the mountains of the Central Drakensberg on the border to Lesotho she was curiously watched by baboons and antilopes and in a wildlife sanctuary Beate Gernhuber walked with elephants - trunk in hand. On a traditional dhow she sailed the islands of the Mozambiquan Bazaruto Archipelago and paddeld Lake Malawi in a kayak. From a Cessna plane she had a birds eye view of a huge hole in the ground near South Africas capital of Pretoria - where the worlds largest diamond was found. Today it is part of the british crown jewels.

Some of the travel destinations grew on her and became a home away from home. Beate Gernhuber started working in different parts of the African Tourism Industry. One year long she worked as a PADI divemaster in the Red Sea of Sinai and guided scuba divers around the coral gardens and the famous divesite The Blue Hole near Dahab and Sharm el Sheikh. In South Africa she managed a mountain lodge in the Drakensberg Range and also worked in a travel agency near Johannesburg. But working in Africa all started with a beach bar called "Indaba" in Chembe Village at Cape Maclear in Malawi that she built up and ran for two years.

During these trips through Africa Beate Gernhuber met the people that are behind the safaris and tours featured on SafariScout.com. They all have one major thing in common: A love for Africa and the enthusiasm to show you the diversity and friendliness of this continent.

SafariScout.com wishes Hamba Kahle. This is Zulu and means: Travel well!
